A notary public is a person legally authorized by a state government to administer oaths, witness the signing of documents, and deter fraud by verifying the identity of a person who signs a document.
Every signer must demonstrate a willingness to sign the documents without coercion. He/she must also be aware of what they are signing and understand the significance of the transaction. Documents cannot be notarized if there is any cognitive impairment.
Proof of identification must be presented at time of service; Acceptable photo identification must be current & issued by a Federal, State, or local Government.
